about

This album is a collection of songs I wrote at different times in my life, sometimes when I was happy and sometimes when days were dark and nights darker still. While the songs are not necessarily 100% autobiographic, each of them inherently includes a part of me.
I enjoy playing these songs in a live setting, and that's how they were recorded: one voice, one guitar, at the same time, in one night.
Oh, and a bottle of wine was involved, too, as I recall...

Track Name: Heaven Walk
HEAVEN WALK

G Bm
They threw the dirt on the pine box
C
And lowered him down in the ground
G
They found him dead out on the docks
D
They think he may have drowned

There’s no name on the headstone
Just a Rest In Peace.
He wasn’t noticed, loved or known
A discarded chess piece.
C G
But they say he was a good man
Em
They say he just didn’t talk
D
Always lent a helping hand
G
Now he’s gone on his Heaven Walk

He just appeared in town one day
And sort of stuck around
Where he was from he wouldn’t say
And never made another sound

He smiled a lot, with his eyes
And made you feel better
Wasn’t quite one of the guys
They thought he’d explain, later

CHORUS

There’s no name on the headstone
Just a Rest in Peace
He had no gold of his own
There won’t be a press release

He won’t be remembered tomorrow
No, he won’t be missed
His passing’s no big blow
He’ll disappear like the mist.

But they say he was a good man
They say he just didn’t talk
Always lent a helping hand
Now he’s gone on his Heaven Walk

Now he’s gone on his Heaven Walk
Track Name: Heavy Cross
HEAVY CROSS

C
Every Saturday night
Em
He leaves her home to play
G
That's when his life takes flight
G
That's when he takes the stage
C

His voice and his guitar
Naked for the world to see
Another stage another bar
Another chance to be free

F
He sings the words that make him cry
C
The stories of deep loss
G
His words go through your heart and pry
F
And find your heavy cross
Am G

His voice can clean your soul
Like a gospel of love & trust
In this life that's his role
He turns your sorrow into dust

He wants nothing in return
but the joy to sing and strum
he wants to soothe all your burns
and march to the bear of his own drum

F
He sings the words that make him cry
C
The stories of deep loss
G
His words go through your heart and pry
F
And find your heavy cross
Am G
Track Name: The Happy Song
G
I'm gonna write me a song
About a girl in a thong
C
Sunning herself somewhere south of here.

I'm gonna write me a ditty
Bout life away from the city
Bout the beach and the sun, and an ice-cold beer

D
Gonna write me a song
C
Cause my life is all wrong
D
Gonna write me a ditty
C D
Cause I need some pretty

I'm gonna write me a song
To feel better before long
To make all my worries disappear

I'm gonna write me a ditty
with smiles and nothin' gritty
& willin' girls, both far and near

Gonna write me a song
Cause my life is all wrong
Gonna write me a ditty
Cause I need some pretty

Bm
And I think of the day
Am G
When I'm free from this pain
G
My song took me far away
C D
Far away from your rain

Gonna write me a song
Cause my life is all wrong
Gonna write me a ditty
Cause I need some pretty

I'm gonna write me a song
Bout a girl out of her thong
Loving me all night somewhere south of here
