The Parable of the Prodigal Son is my favorite part of the Bible. It's about repentant hearts, compassion, forgiving and celebrating love.

This song is derived from that Parable.

He ran for nothing but he ran for me
I was coming home a better son to be
He saw me from afar and he opened his heart
Thanking God above we were no longer apart

I was raised on that same land the son of a rich man
But I thought the world had more for me - so I ran
My father gave me money, his love and his name
I took the money, spent it then the famine came

And I saw the errors of my way
My father’s servants never knew a sky of grey
I sinned against my father when I ran away
Now I wish to be his servant if he’ll let me stay

I left for home hoping he’d take me in his employ
In the broken man, he saw his little boy
Moved by compassion he took me in his embrace
And his love gave chase to my disgrace

But my faithful brother who’d always been by his side
He who never cheated, never left and never lied
He thought my father should not kill the calf and celebrate
After all my actions lead to my current state

But my father said

He saw the errors of his way
But today is a most beautiful day
Sometimes our own storms runs our ship aground
He was truly lost and now he’s found
