I was born in Memphis but I hadn’t been back
I always felt the need to follow my own track
I was born in the south granted fortune and fame
But Mom and Dad fought and then they lost their flame

I was given a guitar and a famous last name
So I wrote my songs and I staked my claim

I get to travel the world and sing for a living
I missed a few birthdays and last Thanksgiving
Cupid took out his bow, a few times he took aim
