about

"the one who remains" is the first line of the song, and it's also the spark for the song. It's the kind of first line that begs the question, well, what happened?

While it may sound like a bit of a sad or dark song, I believe that it ends on a happier twist than the beginning of the song may have suggested would be the case.

lyrics

I’m the one who remains
As she’s busy, changing plains

At the dawn of the day
I watched her walk away

I’m the one who remains
Still in shackles and chains
Living for yesterday
Before she lost her way

I’m the one who remains
Still sullied by the stains
We act, come what may
Hoping we’ll never pay
For those we betray

I”m the one who remains
With a pulse in my veins
Those words she’ll never say
Will emerge from the gray

I’m the one who remains
Still sullied by the stains
We act, come what may
Hoping we’ll never pay
For those we betray
